"Wilksbermo"
Background:
In the Valley of the Yadkin River in-between the Brushy Mountains of Wilkesboro and the Blue Ridge to the north lies a trail system that receives and deserves much hype... and it is all deserved!
The Warrior Creek trail system has hundreds... of berms. So much speed and flow. None of it is at all too technical, however the occasional feature will keep you on your toes and in that flow state of mind.
Bike Report:
Distance: 11 milesTime: 1.5 hours
Difficulty: Strenuous
Rated as one of the best trail systems in North Carolina, the Warrior Creek trail system is a fast and flowing singletrack loop with lots and lots of berms. Stacked berms, over and over and over. The feelings I got here were not too far from the feelings I got from Sherman Branch mountain bike park in Charlotte when I first rode there long ago. If I had to make a comparison to any other trail it would be Sherman, with more berms and elevation change of course!
End of the day, this was the most fun I've had on a mountain bike in a very long time. The singletrack flows through creek gorges off of the reservoir and the Yadkin giving way to tremendous speed. My top speed of the day (according to my phone Strava) was 24 miles per hour.. In the woods that will get your adrenal glands pumping!
A nice rest stop about halfway through the loop with great views of the reservoir |
